IMD issues high alert as low pressure area forms over North Bay of Bengal

Bhubaneswar, July 26: A low pressure area has formed over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Friday.
According to the IMD, the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestwards with height. This system is expected to move west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand over the next two days.
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) at one or two places in the districts of Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Angul, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, and Keonjhar within the next 24 hours. Additionally, a yellow warning for heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) has been issued for one or two places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khordha, Sundargarh, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Nuapada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Balasore, Jajpur, and Jharsuguda.
