Low-pressure system to bring heavy rains to Odisha

Bhubaneswar, July 15: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall in the state due to a low-pressure system forming over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, near the southern Odisha coast on Monday.
In a press release, the IMD mentioned, "A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal around July 19, 2024."
The release further elaborated, "A low-pressure system has developed northwest of the west-central Bay of Bengal, just off the southern Odisha coast, extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, with a southwestward tilt at higher altitudes."
The IMD has also provided a five-day weather forecast following the low-pressure formation.

Day 1 (Valid until 08:30 AM IST on 16.07.24): Yellow Warning (Be Updated)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) is expected in some areas of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nawarangpur, and Rayagada.
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) is likely in parts of Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Bolangir.
Thunderstorms with lightning are anticipated in northern interior Odisha, Sonepur, Boudh, and coastal Odisha.
