Decomposed body of drowned youth recovered from Tapang quarry

Bhubaneswar, July 12: After five days of an intense search operation, the decomposed body of Om Prakash Rath was found floating in a water-filled stone quarry in Tapang near Jatni in Khurdha district on Friday.
Om Prakash, a native of Ranapur in Nayagarh district, drowned in the quarry while trying to save his friend from drowning. The incident occurred while the friends were shooting reels at the abandoned quarry, which had been closed for several years.
Upon hearing the news, the district administration immediately deployed the ODRAF team for the search operation. Later, teams from INS Chilika and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were also brought in to assist. A start-up from NIT engaged a robot and a sound navigation and ranging (sonar) system in the search effort. Despite these efforts, it was only on Friday morning that the rescue team found the body floating.
Om was pursuing a physiotherapy course at the Abhinav Bindra Sports Medicine and Research Institute (ABSMARI) near Pahal on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
