Decision on Ratna Bhandar opening expected July 9: Justice Rath

Bhubaneswar, July 6: A decision regarding the opening of the Ratna Bhandar (treasure trove) of Puri Srimandir will be made at the next meeting on July 9, informed Justice Biswanath Rath, who heads the new committee formed to oversee the reopening of Ratna Bhandar at the Jagannath Temple for repair and inventory of valuables.
The high-level committee was recently constituted by the Odisha government to supervise this process.
Justice Rath clarified that the duplicate keys to the Ratna Bhandar are kept in the treasury, and the Chief Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) will present the keys to the committee during the July 9 meeting.
Justice Rath also mentioned that if the keys do not work, the locks of Ratna Bhandar will be broken. A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be prepared and presented to the government regarding this process. Priority will be given to the rituals and the darshan of the devotees.
In addition to the inventory of valuables, the repair work of Ratna Bhandar is crucial. The repair cannot be done with the ornaments inside, necessitating their temporary relocation. The managing committee will decide where the ornaments will be shifted and how they will be safeguarded during the repair process, according to Justice Rath.
