State health team to probe dengue surge in Balangir

Bhubaneswar, July 6: A state-level health team will visit Saintala in Balangir to assess the increasing dengue outbreak, announced Director of Public Health Nilakantha Mishra on Saturday. The team aims to identify the causes behind the surge in dengue cases.
In addition to evaluating the situation, efforts will focus on raising awareness among local residents about the vector-borne disease and its prevention measures.
The number of dengue cases in Saintala has been rising, particularly following recent rainfall. Currently, 11 positive cases have been reported, with five patients recovered and six undergoing treatment at Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir.
Local authorities are initiating cleanliness drives to eliminate breeding sites for mosquitoes, contributing to the increase in dengue cases. Previously, a review meeting was held by block officials and the Health Department to address the dengue situation.
Director Nilakantha Mishra also reported a total of 350 dengue cases detected across Odisha this year, expressing concern over the doubling of cases compared to the same period last year.
