Surama Padhy files nomination for Speaker of Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar, June 19: Ranpur MLA Surama Padhy filed her nomination for the Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.
According to sources, Padhy submitted her nomination for the prestigious position in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Ministers K V Singhdeo and Pravati Parida, and other BJP MLAs.
The election for the Speaker's post is scheduled to take place tomorrow after the oath-taking ceremony of the House members.
The BJP MLAs held a meeting today, during which Padhy was selected as the party's candidate for the Speaker's position.
If elected, Padhy will become the second woman after Pramila Mallik to serve as Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly. Meanwhile, Ranendra Pratap Swain, an eight-time BJD MLA from the Athagarh Assembly constituency, is currently serving as the Pro-tem Speaker. Swain took oath as Pro-tem Speaker on Friday, with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and others attending the ceremony at Raj Bhawan.
