Wedding cancellation results in alleged suicide of young woman
Bhubaneswar, June 17: Upset over the cancellation of her wedding, a young girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in Nuatipilei village, under Bhuban police jurisdiction in Dhenkanal district, on Sunday night.
The deceased, identified as Dipa, was the daughter of Premananda Pradhan.
According to Premananda, Dipa, a post-graduate student, was in love with Chintu Dalei. Upon discovering their relationship, both families agreed to their marriage.
However, the groom’s family later canceled the wedding for unspecified reasons. Distressed by this, Dipa allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan, as reported by her father.
Before taking the extreme step, Dipa reportedly wrote her fiancé’s name and his number on her palm.
Bhuban police have seized the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. An investigation has also been launched.
