Police havildar dies in Cuttack firecracker defusal tragedy

Bhubaneswar, June 14: A police havildar tragically lost his life in Cuttack on Friday when seized firecrackers, being defused on the banks of Kathajodi river, exploded unexpectedly.
The deceased, identified as Pradip Kumar Malick, hailed from Jagatpur Andeisahi in Cuttack and had served 24 years in the Commissionerate Police before recently joining the bomb squad team of the Reserve Police.
Malick was fatally injured in the explosion while attempting to defuse the firecrackers near the Kathajodi embankment. He was swiftly transported to SCB Medical College and Hospital in an ambulance, but unfortunately, he succumbed to severe burns. A police official mentioned that Malick's body will undergo a post-mortem examination before being handed over to his family.
In response to the incident, senior police officials and a scientific team promptly arrived at the accident site to investigate whether proper Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) were adhered to during the operation.
