Odisha BJP pledges Ayushman Bharat rollout after assembly election victory

Bhubaneswar, June 5: Following the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) resounding victory in the state Assembly elections, securing 78 out of 147 seats, state BJP president Manmohan Samal announced the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Odisha.
Addressing the media, Samal stated, “Health cards will soon see a transformation. The BJP will introduce the Ayushman Bharat scheme for the people of Odisha and 1.5 lakh Odia residents living outside the state.”
“Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) has its limitations. Therefore, we will adopt the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, which offers broader coverage compared to BSKY cards. The implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme will commence after the new government assumes office. Citizens will be entitled to access 100% of the Rs 5 lakh coverage without any treatment restrictions,” Samal emphasized. He had lost to BJD candidate Byomakesh Ray in the Chandabali assembly seat. Ray emerged victorious with 83063 votes.
The BJP is poised to form the government in Odisha independently for the first time, securing 78 Assembly seats in the recently concluded elections. Additionally, the party achieved a near-sweep in the Lok Sabha elections, winning 20 out of 21 seats. While the ruling BJD failed to secure any seats, the Congress managed to retain its Koraput Lok Sabha constituency.
