Odisha braces for heatwave as temperatures set to climb further

Bhubaneswar, May 29: The heatwave across Odisha is expected to persist, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar forecasting a rise in day temperatures by 2°C to 4°C over the next two days.
In addition to soaring temperatures, humidity levels are predicted to increase, making conditions more uncomfortable. The IMD has warned that hot and humid weather will likely continue across most of the state until May 31. Currently, Paradip and Gopalpur are experiencing humidity levels as high as 79 percent due to strong summer currents from the west.
Heatwave conditions are expected in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bolangir, and Nuapada districts on Wednesday and Thursday. Despite the heatwave, there is a chance of intermittent rain in some parts of Odisha, with possible lightning and thunderstorms on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is anticipated to reach the Indian mainland between May 31 and June 1, particularly in Kerala. The IMD predicts an above-normal monsoon this year, with 106 percent rainfall expected across the country.
