Ganjam imposes precautionary 8:30 PM closure on eateries to curb violence

Bhubaneswar, May 28: In a bid to curb poll-related violence, Ganjam police have mandated the closure of hotels, dhabas, betel shops, and tea stalls by 8:30 pm until June 4.
These establishments often become centers for gossip and heated discussions during election periods, which can lead to arguments and violence. To prevent such incidents, Ganjam Superintendent of Police (SP) Jagmohan Meena instructed inspectors in charge to enforce the early closure in their respective areas to maintain law and order.
Speaking to the media, SP Jagmohan Meena stated, “We have appealed to the owners of tea stalls, eateries, dhabas, and hotels to close their outlets by 8:30 pm to prevent violence in the post-poll period. This measure has been taken as a precaution to prevent clashes between supporters of rival parties.”
In the past week, police have arrested around 100 individuals under the Arms Act as part of their efforts to curb poll violence. Additionally, police are conducting flag marches to reinforce their commitment to maintaining peace during the election period.
