Repolling mandated in Kantamal, over rigging accusations

Bhubaneswar, May 21: Official reports on Tuesday announced that repolling will be conducted in Kantamal, Boudh district, Odisha, as ordered by the Election Commission of India.
Allegations of rigging surfaced in Kantamal Constituency in Boudh, particularly under Raksha Panchayat at Maheshwarpinda Booth No-28. Following a request from the BJD, the Chief Election Officer of the state initiated the decision for repolling in the area.
Polling at this booth had been prematurely halted the previous day due to disturbances, closing at 1:30 pm. Dissatisfaction ensued, leading to a two-hour protest in front of the booth despite attempts to notify the administration, which went unheeded.
Subsequently, protesters obstructed the National Highway, causing disruption to traffic. Reports indicate that police intervened, resorting to force and firing, escalating tensions as protesters retaliated by pelting stones at law enforcement.
