Elephant carcass found in Angul, suspected electrocution

Bhubaneswar, May 20: The carcass of a tusker was discovered in the Angul district of Odisha, according to reports on Monday. An investigation is currently underway.
The elephant's body was found in Kantamegha village, and it is suspected that the animal died from an electric shock.
Following the elephant's death, the forest department has launched an investigation. Elephant deaths in Odisha have been frequently reported. Notably, in November, a similar incident occurred in Keonjhar district.
In Keonjhar, a tusker was found dead in the Telkhandkoi Forest within the Golaband Forest Beat in Bhadimara village. Forest department officials promptly arrived at the scene and began their investigation. Preliminary information suggested that the death resulted from a fight between elephants.
Another tragic incident occurred in Dhenkanal district of Odisha on November 8, 2023, where an elephant was electrocuted after contacting a live electric wire meant to deter wild animals. This incident happened near Kantakula Canal in the Hindol forest division.
