Police encounter with Naxals in Odisha forest: One SOG jawan injured
Bhubaneswar, May 20: Based on intelligence inputs, an operation was initiated along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border. In the Sunabeda forest near Shivanarayanpur (Komna PS), Naxals engaged with SOG personnel around 3 am on Monday.
During the exchange of fire, one SOG jawan sustained bullet injuries and was taken to Raipur for treatment. His condition is stable.
Another team conducted a search operation in separate hilly areas early in the morning. Around 8 am, this team encountered 10-12 Naxals about 2-3 km from the initial encounter site. Despite another exchange of fire, the Naxals managed to escape into the dense forest. However, there are strong suspicions of bullet injuries to a few Naxals in this encounter.
During the ongoing search operation, which is still underway, authorities have recovered 10 IEDs, a loaded pistol, and other incriminating items from what appears to be a transit hideout. Further search operations are ongoing in the area.
Earlier, a hardcore Maoist was reportedly killed near Malkangiri district on the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border on May 18. This encounter marks a significant success for the police forces.
The operation leading to the Maoist's death occurred during a search operation in the Tetrai forest of Sukhma district. The search operation continues as there are suspicions of more Maoists hiding in the area.
