Low-pressure area to form over Bay of Bengal, rain expected in Odisha
Bhubaneswar, May 18: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Saturday that a low-pressure area is expected to develop over the southwest Bay of Bengal (BoB) around May 22, 2024.
According to the latest IMD forecast, this low-pressure system is projected to move northeastwards initially and then intensify into a depression over the central Bay of Bengal by around May 24.
IMD's regional center shared on its X handle: “A low-pressure area is likely to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal around May 22. It is expected to move northeastwards and concentrate into a depression over the central Bay of Bengal by May 24, 2024.”
Due to this developing low-pressure area, Odisha is anticipated to experience rainfall and thunderstorms. Currently, many areas in the state are suffering from a severe heatwave, but the forthcoming system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring much-needed relief by triggering rainfall in several regions of Odisha, according to sources.
