Hardcore Maoist killed in police encounter on Odisha-Chhattisgarh border

Bhubaneswar, May 18: A hardcore Maoist was killed in a police encounter on the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border near Malkangiri district, reports revealed on Saturday. This development marks a significant success for the police.
The Maoist was killed in an exchange of fire during a search operation in the Tetrai forest of Sukma district. The search operation is ongoing, as authorities suspect more Maoists may be hiding in the area.
According to Sukma SP Kiran Chouhan, the district police and DRG Jawans raided the Tolnai forest based on intelligence from a special source. Detailed information will be provided after the search operation concludes.
In a related event, at least nine Maoists, including two women and seven men, surrendered to the police in Odisha’s Boudh district on May 8. These Maoists, from the KKBN Mao Division, hail from the Mullera area of Chhattisgarh.
The surrendering Maoists revealed that they were motivated to leave their ranks due to sexual harassment of women cadres and being forced to loot money from people, harvest ganja, and engage in other illegal activities, which they found intolerable.
