Special Investigation Team to probe Khallikote murder case

Bhubaneswar, May 17: In response to the recent pre-election violence in Khallikote, the Director General of Police (DGP) has announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the incident.
According to reports, the DGP has mandated the SIT to promptly apprehend the actual perpetrator, gather robust evidence (including scientific, forensic, and digital), and file a chargesheet within 30 days to expedite the trial.
The SIT is required to provide regular status updates to the Inspector General of Police, Southern Range. To ensure law and order in Ganjam District during the election period, IPS officer Radha Krishna Sharma, ADGP Headquarters, will be stationed in Chhatrapur from May 17 to May 21.
In light of the pre-election violence in Khallikote, the Ganjam district administration has enforced Section 144 of the CrPC within a 100-meter radius of the Khallikote police station.
This decision followed an incident where locals hurled stones and bottles at the police as they were transporting the suspects involved in the pre-election violence to court. The police resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the agitated crowd.
The violence erupted the previous night in Srikrushnasaranpur village, stemming from a dispute over the placement of political posters. The clash between two rival political groups resulted in several critical injuries on both sides.
All injured individuals were taken to a hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, one of the victims, Dilip Pahan, succumbed to his injuries at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
