Odisha braces for rising temperatures amid thunderstorms

Bhubaneswar, May 16: Following a brief respite due to rainfall from a Nor’wester, temperatures are once again climbing across Odisha amid thunderstorms and lightning. Daytime temperatures have risen by 2°C to 4°C in several locations since Wednesday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has indicated that while an intense heatwave is not expected in the near future, weather conditions will remain uncomfortable over the next week.
Additionally, many areas in the state are forecasted to experience light to moderate rain and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h. Regions such as Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Khordha, and Puri are likely to see lightning and light to moderate rainfall in the next three hours.
On Wednesday, the maximum temperature in four locations across Odisha hovered around 40°C, with Nuapada recording the highest at 42.2°C.
