Four arrested in Rs 2.79 crore gold smuggling operation at Bhubaneswar Airport

Bhubaneswar, May 8: Recently at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar, authorities seized a total of 3.77 kilograms of smuggled gold valued at Rs 2.79 crore. Four passengers were apprehended in connection with this incident on Monday.
Based on specific intelligence, officers from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) identified and questioned four passengers arriving from Dubai. Upon interrogation, it was revealed that they had attempted to smuggle gold in paste form, concealing it in their rectums.
Further investigation led to the discovery of 12 capsules containing gold paste from the four passengers. Through heat treatment, the contraband was separated, resulting in the recovery of 3.77 kilograms of gold worth Rs 2.79 crore from their possession.
The seized gold has been confiscated, and the four passengers have been arrested under the Customs Act of 1962. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
