Scorching heat grips Bhubaneswar: Maximum temperature hits 43.8°C

Bhubaneswar, April 22: Despite overcast skies, Bhubaneswar experienced near-record temperatures reaching almost 44 degrees Celsius on Monday. According to the IMD, the capital city recorded a scorching maximum temperature of 43.8 degrees Celsius by 2:30 pm.
Bhubaneswar stood out as the hottest spot in Odisha during this time, with two other locations also experiencing temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius - Balasore at 40.7 degrees and Chandbali at 40.4 degrees.
"Due to prevailing mainly Nor-westerly/Westerly dry air and high solar insolation, daytime temperatures are likely to exceed 40°C in many interior districts of Odisha, with some districts expected to be 3 to 5°C above normal over the next 24 hours," stated the IMD.
The IMD also forecasted a decrease of 2-3°C in maximum temperatures over the next 3 days in Odisha, followed by a gradual rise of 2-3°C in the subsequent 2 days in many districts across the state. Heatwave conditions are expected to persist in certain districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Khordha, and others on Tuesday.
Additionally, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds of 40-50 KMPH are likely in various districts such as Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, and several others, as listed by the IMD.
