Bhubaneswar, April 19: Prof. (Dr.) Sukumar Mishra, hailing from Odisha, has been appointed as the Director of IIT-Dhanbad, announced by the Union Ministry of Education on Thursday. He was previously a professor in the electrical engineering department at IIT-Delhi.

Having earned his M.Tech and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, in 1992 and 2000, respectively, Mishra boasts an impressive academic background.

Throughout his career, Mishra has been the recipient of numerous accolades, including the Young Scientist Award (1999) by Orissa Bigyan Academy, INSA Medal for Young Scientist (2002), INAE Young Engineer Award (2002), and INAE Silver Jubilee Young Engineer Award (2012), among others.

His research expertise spans Power Systems, Power Quality Studies, Renewable Energy, and Smart Grid technologies. Mishra's contributions to academia and innovation have been recognized through prestigious awards such as the National Mission Innovation Championship Award (2019), INAE Outstanding Teachers Award (2021), and Innovation Leadership Award (2023).
