Suicide bid at Jharsuguda court: Undertrial leaps from third floor

Jharsuguda, April 16: On Tuesday, an undertrial prisoner housed in Jharsuguda Sub-Jail made a suicide attempt by leaping from the third floor of the Jharsuguda District Court building.
Identified as Sanatan Singh, the prisoner faces charges of molestation and was slated for a court appearance on the day of the incident. Despite efforts by lawyers present to intervene, Singh managed to overpower them and attempted to end his life. Sustaining injuries in the fall, he was promptly transported to the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for medical attention.
Singh had been on the run for approximately a year following accusations of molesting a minor in the Junadihi region of the district in 2022. He was apprehended by Belapahada police in 2023 and subsequently brought before the court to face legal proceedings.
