Heatwave alert: Odisha set to cross 40°C mark in coming days

Bhubaneswar, April 13: After a brief break from the intense heat, several areas in Odisha are poised to surpass the 40 degrees Celsius mark over the next few days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The regional office of the Meteorological Centre has forecasted a substantial increase of 6-8 degrees Celsius in maximum daytime temperatures across Odisha during this period.
Anticipated temperatures are expected to soar to 43 degrees Celsius in Bolangir, Sambalpur, Titlagarh, Jharsuguda, and Sonepur within the upcoming days.
According to IMD data, Chandbali recorded the highest temperature at 36.8°C around 11:30 am on Saturday, closely trailed by Balasore at 36.4°C.
Areas currently enduring scorching conditions include Bhubaneswar (36.2°C), Gopalpur (34.6°C), Keonjhar (34°C), Puri (33.8°C), Paradip (33.4°C), Jharsuguda (33.4°C), Rourkela (32.6°C), Sambalpur (32.4°C), and Hirakud (32.2°C).
In light of the escalating temperatures, the IMD has cautioned against outdoor activities between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, unless absolutely necessary.
Senior IMD scientist Umashankar Das informed the media that with temperatures projected to surge by six to eight degrees Celsius in the coming days, coastal districts including Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Puri will experience severe heat and humidity conditions starting from April 14th.
