Puri administration assists Netherlands national allegedly robbed by taxi driver

Puri , March 2: Expressing concern over the distressing incident involving a Netherlands national allegedly robbed by a taxi driver in Puri on January 25, the district administration has stepped in to provide assistance.

In addition to arranging a flight ticket to Nagpur for the victim, Anthony Van Arkel, the administration has relocated him from a shelter home for beggars to Panthaniwas.

The District Public Relations Officer stated, "Anthony will receive comprehensive facilities at Panthaniwas and undergo medical tests before his flight to Nagpur."

Puri Superintendent of Police, Pinak Mishra, mentioned ongoing efforts to apprehend the accused taxi driver, Saroj Mallick, who remains at large. The Dutch embassy has been notified, and Mallick's vehicle has been seized. Authorities will investigate how the accused gained the trust of the Dutch tourist and hosted him at his residence in Puri for 11 days.

Anthony expressed gratitude to the media for shedding light on his situation, prompting prompt action from the district administration to relocate him to Panthaniwas. He is currently accommodated in Room no 105 at Panthaniwas.

Reports indicate that Anthony lost 15 kg during his stay at Niladri Nilaya due to inadequate facilities.
