Centre approves Rs 718 crore for Highway 59 upgrade in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Feb 27: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced on Tuesday the approval of Rs 718.26 crore for the widening and strengthening of the Daringbadi Ghat section on National Highway 59 in Odisha. This project, encompassing Kandhamal and Ganjam districts, has been sanctioned under the annual plan for 2023-24 and spans a distance of 26.96 km.
Gadkari highlighted the challenges faced by the current Daringbadi Ghat segment, citing its narrow carriageway and suboptimal geometrics, which result in long-route vehicles from western Odisha bypassing National Highway 59.
Recognizing Daringbadi as a significant tourist destination, particularly during the winter season, Gadkari emphasized that the enhancement of this stretch will not only elevate highway standards but also improve safety and ensure seamless connectivity along National Highway 59.
