STF seizes leopard skins, arrests two in Sambalpur district raid

Bhubaneswar, Feb 15: In the early hours of Thursday, a team from the Special Task Force (STF) conducted a raid on Kuchinda-Bonaigarh road near Thianala, under Kuchinda Police Station in Sambalpur district. With assistance from forest officials of Bamara Forest Division, the STF seized two leopard skins and apprehended two individuals.
The arrested individuals, identified as Sankitan Munda and Dhaneswar Munda from Pahadamara village in Deogarh district, were unable to provide valid documentation for the leopard skins. Acting on a tip-off, wildlife authorities collaborated with forest officials to carry out the operation.
Both suspects have been charged under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, and they are set to be presented in court. Additionally, the STF plans to send the seized skins to the Director of WII in Dehradun for biological examination.
