Bhubaneswar, Feb 13: Odisha Fire and Emergency Services has launched an ambitious mission to bring all its personnel into perfect physical shape within one year. The mission was launched today by the DG Fire & Emergency Services Sudhanshu Sarangi in a Fitness Camp organised at the Fire Academy at Baramunda. One staff from each of 340 establishments attended the camp. 

The personnel trained today will be fitness coordinator for the Fire Station they represented. The Health Department has already notified Medical test to assess the health and fitness of all the Firemen. These tests will be completed by end of the month. All personnel will be doing a set of exercises for the next six months for reducing fat and building their aerobic foundation, which will be reviewed after six months. 

Firemen are considered the fittest emergency workers in the world. They work in challenging physical environment in fire, water, dilapidated physical structures. They are required to operate in high rise buildings. The NDRF has already been able to achieve a norm of keeping all their personnel below 25 BMI. If the mission is successful, Odisha Fire Department will be the first Fire Department in India’s to meet the same standards. 

Addressing the participants DGP advised all the fitness coordinator to be responsible to themselves and their family as well as always remain prepared to save life in any difficult situation.  The Fire Department has already requested for funds to set up Gyms in all the 346 Fire Stations and will be conducting a set of competition between Fire Stations to recognise the improvements in fitness standards. 

DIG Sarthak Sarangi, Sports Physio Muktikanta Das also addressed the participants and gave them practical tips for improving health and fitness.
