ATM van robbery gang busted: Seven arrested in Cuttack heist crackdown

Cuttack, Feb 13:In a significant crackdown, a probe team has dismantled an ATM van robbery gang, leading to the arrest of seven individuals connected to the brazen daylight heist. The robbery, which occurred on November 10, 2023, at Godijharia under Tigiria police jurisdiction in Cuttack district, saw thieves flee with approximately Rs 1.67 crore in cash.
Several employees affiliated with a cash management service (CMS) company have been implicated in the crime. After intercepting the vehicle on a road in Godijharia, the gang forcefully seized the entire cash haul at gunpoint. Police apprehended the culprits and subsequently seized around Rs 64.45 lakh in cash, along with three knives and a toy gun from their possession, as confirmed by a senior police official.
Reportedly, the robbers devised the heist to recoup losses of nearly Rs 15 lakh incurred from online gaming. Two CMS company staff members are identified as the masterminds behind the ATM van robbery, according to police sources.
"Two principal suspects had contracted a notorious criminal named Kalim Khan from Tigiria for the robbery. Despite two failed attempts, the gang successfully executed the heist," remarked Cuttack Rural SP Mihir Kumar Panda to the media. The arrested individuals hail from Kankala village in Tigiria, while the primary suspects remain at large.
