Bhubaneswar, Feb 12: A young man and woman, believed to be in a relationship, were discovered deceased by hanging inside a pump house at Burja, located within the jurisdiction of the Umerkote police station in Nabarangpur district on Monday.

The man, identified as Sanadhar Bhatra from Pujariguda, served as a contract worker at the pump house, while the woman hailed from the nearby Kursi village.

Sanadhar was responsible for managing water supply operations at the pump house. When he failed to release water as usual in the morning, concerned villagers visited the site to investigate. They found the pump house door locked from the inside but the window open. Peering inside, they discovered the tragic scene of both individuals hanging from the ceiling.

Promptly, the villagers alerted the authorities, leading to the police rushing to the location and retrieving the bodies for post-mortem examination.

Authorities suspect that the couple may have taken their own lives due to relationship issues.

However, the exact circumstances surrounding their deaths will only be determined following a thorough investigation, the police stated. Family members of the deceased have refrained from commenting on the matter.
