Junior Engineer arrested in Odisha for alleged disproportionate assets

Bhubaneswar, Feb 1: Late Wednesday night, Odisha Vigilance apprehended Sanjaya Kumar Mohanty, a Junior Engineer (JE) from the CADA Division in Malkangiri, on charges of possessing disproportionate assets (DA) amounting to 236% of his known income.
Mohanty was presented before the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Jeypore, and has been remanded to jail custody until February 13. A case was registered at the Koraput Vigilance police station on January 31 under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, against Mohanty and his spouse.
During house searches, significant movable and immovable assets were discovered in Mohanty's name and that of his family members:
A triple-storeyed building in Deulipanchughanta, Jaleswar, Balasore, spanning approximately 10,000 sqft.
A 2-BHK Flat in Green Homes Apartment, Raghunathpur, Bhubaneswar, covering an area of around 1200 sqft.
14 plots in prime areas of Jaleswar Town.
Cash amounting to Rs 1,43,220.
One Honda City and two other two-wheelers valued at approximately Rs 12.70 lakh.
Bank & Insurance deposits totaling around Rs 8 lakh.
Gold and household articles worth over Rs 14.18 lakh.
Following a comprehensive investigation into his income, expenditures, and assets, it was determined that Mohanty possessed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income by 236%.
