Major atm theft ring busted: Balasore Police nab five culprits

Balasore, Jan 15: Balasore police successfully dismantled an inter-state ATM loot gang, apprehending five individuals in the process.
The law enforcement seized a significant amount of evidence, including Rs 6,13,700 in cash, one car, a pistol with 4 rounds of ammunition, a hotspot dongle, a wire cutter, a screwdriver, three smartphones, two backpack bags, broken cash trays from ATMs, ID proofs, and chance fingerprints, according to an official press release.
Originating from Haryana, the accused, under interrogation, admitted to engaging in multiple instances of ATM cutting and theft. The criminal activities came to light on the night of 10/11 January when two ATM theft cases were reported at Khaira and Soro police stations. The total amount looted from the ATMs during these incidents was Rs 10,71,900.
Upon receiving information about the ATM thefts, police teams pursued the gang. In a daring escape attempt, the culprits, driving a white car, brandished a gun at the pursuing police team. The next day, the abandoned car was discovered on a wooden bridge in a village under Khunta police limits. Further investigation revealed it to be a vehicle stolen from the Delhi region.
A meticulous examination of the car's contents, involving scientific teams, a dog squad, Cyber cell, CCTV footage analysis, continuous search efforts, and intelligence collection, led to the successful resolution of both ATM theft cases from the night of 10/11 January.
The accused individuals were apprehended in Bhubaneswar as they attempted to flee, and they have since confessed to their involvement in multiple ATM break-ins and thefts.
