Doctors in Odisha instructed to ensure legible prescriptions and reports

Bhubaneswar, Jan 12: In compliance with the Orissa High Court's directive, Chief Secretary PK Jena has mandated that all doctors in the state follow specific guidelines for documentation.
The instruction requires doctors, including Registered Medical Practitioners, Medical Officers in government peripheral healthcare facilities, Medical College Hospitals, Private Clinics, and Private Medical Colleges, to write prescriptions, post-mortem reports, and medico-legal reports in capital letters, legible handwriting, or typed form. The objective is to prevent any confusion arising from illegible handwriting.
An official order from the Health & Family Welfare Department states, “All Registered Medical Practitioners/ Medical Officers of Govt. Peripheral healthcare facilities/ Medical College Hospitals, Private Clinics and Pvt Medical Colleges are to write prescription in proper legible handwriting or in typed form as per guideline of NMC(Chapter 2-4B / Notification No. 12013 Dt 23.5.2022).
The medico legal reports & post-mortem reports are to be written either in capital letters or in a typed form or in good legible handwriting to ensure appreciation of evidence in the judicial system and to be uploaded in MLOS."
