Body recovered from Sileru river sparks murder investigation

Malkangiri, Jan 11: On Thursday, authorities recovered the lifeless body of a man from the Sileru river near Tandapali village within the jurisdiction of Malkangiri Model police station.
Reports indicate that locals spotted the body floating in the Sileru river during the morning hours and promptly alerted the police. The deceased, identified as Lakhma Kabasi from Tandapali village, displayed evidence of having his throat slit.
Malkangiri Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sachin Patel, along with Malkangiri Model police station's Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Reagan Kindo and a scientific team, visited the scene. The police have taken possession of Lakhma's body, transporting it to Malkangiri district headquarters hospital for a thorough autopsy.
In response to the alarming discovery, authorities have initiated a case, and an ongoing investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
There are suspicions that Lakhma, who failed to return home the previous night, may have been the victim of foul play, potentially targeted and murdered by individuals who harbored suspicions of witchcraft against him, before being disposed of in the river.
