Alliance Air cancels Rourkela-Kolkata maiden flight
Rourkela, Dec 27: Alliance Air canceled the inaugural flight service connecting Rourkela and Kolkata on Tuesday afternoon due to adverse weather conditions causing low visibility. Additionally, flights between Rourkela and Bhubaneswar, as well as Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, were also canceled.
Passengers scheduled for the Rourkela-Bhubaneswar flight were notified about the cancellation at 10 am, and despite some passengers waiting at the airport from 3 pm onwards, the flight from Kolkata was ultimately canceled around 4.15 pm due to persisting low visibility conditions.
Disappointed passengers sought explanations from the Alliance Air station manager at Rourkela airport. Expressing frustration, Sunil Kayal, President of the Rourkela Chamber of Commerce and Industry, shared, "I had planned to take the maiden direct flight to Kolkata for a business trip but unfortunately had to return home."
A press release from the Chief Minister's office had earlier highlighted the commencement of the Rourkela-Kolkata flight service, mentioning a viability gap funding (VGF) for 35 seats. The release stated that Alliance Air would operate the service three days a week—on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. It also emphasized the potential for significant growth in the industrialization and tourism sectors with the introduction of the direct flight. The airfare for the service was noted as Rs 1,999.
