Villagers panic as tiger kills cow in Rayagada
Rayagada, Dec 25: In Odisha's Rayagada district, a Royal Bengal Tiger has caused alarm among villagers, claiming a cow as its latest prey. The incident unfolded in the Ambakhula village under the Padampur forest range, where a resident discovered one of his cows missing on Sunday morning. Suspecting the tiger's involvement, villagers promptly notified the Forest department.
Forest officials initiated a search operation in the nearby forest, revealing two legs of a cow and tiger pug marks in close proximity. It is believed that the wild cat killed the bovine and dragged it into the forest before consuming it.
This Royal Bengal Tiger has been moving across forest areas under the Gudari, Padampur, Muniguda, and Gunupur ranges, causing concern among locals. It had previously claimed a calf near Tembaguda village on December 12.
Forest officials note that the tiger is currently traversing Puliput and Jhumpapur areas under the Gunupur range. Given its nightly range of nearly 20 km, tracking the elusive animal has proven challenging for officials. Despite deploying trap cameras in the range, the tiger has yet to be captured on film.
