Opposition uproar forces adjournment in Odisha Assembly over tribals’ land transfer dispute

Bhubaneswar, Nov 23: The third day of the Winter Session in the Odisha Assembly turned tumultuous on Thursday as uproar ensued over the contentious issue of transferring tribal lands to non-tribals.
Speaker Pramila Mallik, faced with an unruly atmosphere inside the House, decided to adjourn the proceedings until 4:00 pm later that day.
Upon the commencement of the day's session, BJP legislators from the opposition created chaos by storming the Well of the House, brandishing placards, and vociferously chanting slogans. The disruptive scene made it challenging for the Speaker to effectively conduct the business of the House.
This disruption follows a similar incident on Wednesday when opposition uproar over the land transfer issue led to the adjournment of the House until 4:00 pm. Opposition Chief Whip and BJP MLA Mohan Majhi expressed dissatisfaction with the Speaker's rejection of their motion for a special discussion on Wednesday, reiterating their demand for the Chief Minister to withdraw the decision regarding the land transfer rule.
