Blast at steel plant in Rourkela claims a life, leaves two in critical condition

Rourkela, Nov 16: In the early hours of Thursday, a tragic blast at the Kalunga Shubh steel plant in Rourkela claimed the life of one labourer while two others sustained critical injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Chinmay Behera from Jajpur, while two others, Jayprakash Kishan from Kalunga and Abhishek from Bihar, sustained critical injuries.
The injured workers were promptly transported to a nearby hospital and are currently undergoing treatment, with their condition deemed critical. The blast is suspected to have been caused by a potential gas pipe leakage near the workers' restroom within the plant, occurring while the workers were asleep.
Despite the midnight incident, the police have not yet arrived at the scene for an official investigation. Reports indicate that approximately 100 individuals are employed at the private plant, which operates irregularly.
Concerns have been raised by locals regarding the plant owner's alleged neglect of safety measures for the workers, and attempts to contact company officials over the incident have been unsuccessful.
