Diwali celebrations turn tragic in Odisha: Multiple fire incidents injure dozens

Bhubaneswar, Nov 13: The festive air of Diwali turned tragic in various parts of Odisha as fire-related incidents caused injuries and damages on Sunday.
In Baripada, a massive fire erupted at a tent house godown in Kali Mandir Sahi. Reports indicate the blaze, possibly ignited by a sky lantern, led to significant damage, estimated in lakhs, despite efforts from five fire engines to contain it.
Across Jajpur district, separate incidents during firecracker bursts resulted in critical burn injuries to six individuals, including three children and a woman in Byasanagar and Korei areas.
In Odisha's Nuapada district, a 12-year-old boy suffered severe injuries while lighting fireworks in Bhela village. Bursting crackers in a steel glass caused an explosion, harming the boy. Sambalpur faced a fire incident at Shyama Vatika apartment, where a Diwali rocket triggered a fire on the third floor. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Over 100 injured individuals from firecracker mishaps were swiftly taken to Bhubaneswar's Capital Hospital for treatment, prompting the formation of a dedicated medical team for their care.
Reports indicate that fire-related incidents during Diwali celebrations resulted in injuries to more than 125 individuals in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar in Odisha.
