Malkangiri, Nov 12: In a distressing incident, a man has been apprehended on allegations of sexually assaulting his own underage daughter in the vicinity of the Drugline area, within the Orkel police station's jurisdiction in Malkangiri district.

The accused, identified as Nitai Sarkar, serves as a security guard at the Balimela Hydropower Centre. According to sources, Sarkar reportedly subjected his daughter to forced sexual assault on November 5 and menacingly warned her against disclosing the harrowing experience, threatening her life.

The brave 13-year-old girl found the courage to disclose her trauma to a neighbor despite her father's threats. Nitai Sarkar had also intimidated his daughter again following her disclosure.

Subsequently, with the assistance of concerned neighbors, the girl sought refuge at the police station. Acting on her complaint, the police registered a case under pertinent sections including 376(2)(f)/376(3)/506 IPC/R.W.Sec -4(2)/6 POCSO act.

It's noteworthy that Sarkar's wife has been residing at her parental home with her young son following family discord. The abhorrent crime occurred during the absence of Sarkar's wife.
