Bhubaneswar, November 11, 2023 :  In an effort to make this Diwali not only joyous but also environmentally conscious, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has curated a series of citizen-centric programs, with a distinctive celebration taking place at Bhima Bhoi School for the Blind today.

The unique event witnessed the active participation of 70 in-house students, teachers, and esteemed guests, including Hon’ble MLA Central, Shri Ananta Narayana Jena, Hon’ble Mayor, Smt Sulochana Das, Hon’ble Deputy Mayor, Smt Manjulata Kanhara, Commissioner, Shri Vijay Amruta Kulange, corporators, and school teachers.

Commencing the celebration, Hon’ble MLA Central commended the impeccable cleanliness of the school campus, applauding the students and teachers as exemplary models for cleanliness.

Expressing BMC's commitment to inclusivity, Hon’ble Mayor emphasized the significant role students and teachers play in the city's cleanliness and development. Commissioner highlighted Bhubaneswar's progress in various sectors, particularly in adopting advanced technologies for sanitation. He praised the students for their heart-touching slogan "BhubaneswarFirst" and encouraged spreading this message citywide.

The celebration continued with BMC staff, students, and teachers joining together to illuminate Diwali with the radiance of candles.

BMC issued a fervent call to citizens to embrace a green Diwali and conducted various initiatives across the city, including poster campaigns, standbys, support for local vendors selling traditional diyas, and widespread awareness through announcement vehicles and social media platforms.

The event witnessed the presence of Additional Commissioner Shri Laxmikanta Sethi, Additional Commissioner Shri Subhendu Kumar Sahu, and Shri Priyabrata Padhi. The Headmistress, Vijaylaxmi Pal, commended BMC's commendable initiative.

This Diwali, BMC encourages everyone to contribute to the ethos of a cleaner, greener, and more vibrant Bhubaneswar.
