Bhubaneswar, Sep 23: Proceedings of the Odisha Legislative Assembly were adjourned till 4 pm on Wednesday after Congress and BJD members created an uproar during Question Hour, protesting against the amended Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act and alleged errors in school textbooks.

On the second day of the Monsoon Session, Opposition legislators entered the Well of the House soon after Question Hour began. They raised slogans and displayed placards demanding the withdrawal of the amended MMDR Act. The protests disrupted the scheduled proceedings and prevented the House from conducting business normally.

BJD legislators also raised concerns over alleged errors in recently distributed school textbooks and demanded clarification from the state government. The issue has emerged as another point of contention between the Opposition and the ruling government during the ongoing session.

Amid the noisy scenes, Deputy Speaker Bhabani Shankar Bhoi repeatedly appealed to the protesting members to return to their seats and allow Question Hour to continue.

However, the Opposition members remained in the Well and continued raising slogans over the two issues. With normal proceedings becoming difficult, the Deputy Speaker eventually adjourned the House till 4 pm.

The Opposition continued its protest even after the adjournment, with members reiterating their demands over the amended MMDR legislation and textbook-related concerns.
