Bhubaneswar, Aug 4: Several parts of western Odisha witnessed heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours, with Jharsuguda district recording the highest precipitation in the state, according to the latest data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD's Regional Meteorological Centre said Jharsuguda received 114.3 mm of rainfall, the highest in Odisha during the period. It was followed by Chikiti in Ganjam district with 111.4 mm and Betanati in Mayurbhanj district with 93.0 mm of rainfall.

Other areas that experienced significant showers included Bamra in Sambalpur, which recorded 91.0 mm, Jhumpura in Keonjhar with 85.4 mm, and Koshagumuda in Nabarangpur with 83.6 mm. Overall, 10 weather stations across the state recorded heavy rainfall, reflecting active monsoon conditions in several districts.

Despite the localized heavy showers, the state's average rainfall during the past 24 hours stood at 12.0 mm, compared to the normal 14.4 mm, registering a 16 per cent deficit.

On the temperature front, Paralakhemundi recorded the highest maximum temperature at 36.2°C, while Boudh reported the lowest minimum temperature at 19.5°C. In the twin cities, Bhubaneswar received 38.1 mm of rainfall with temperatures ranging between 25.0°C and 34.6°C, while Cuttack recorded 14.2 mm of rainfall, with the maximum and minimum temperatures settling at 35.2°C and 23.4°C, respectively.
