Bhubaneswar, July 30: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a seven-day weather outlook, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, gusty surface winds and heavy rainfall across Odisha over the coming week. The weather agency has urged residents, particularly those in vulnerable and low-lying areas, to remain alert as monsoon conditions are expected to keep the state under the influence of widespread rain.

According to the IMD's Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, a Yellow Warning has been issued for several districts over the next three days for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph. The warning covers districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati, while more interior districts are likely to come under the warning in subsequent days.

The IMD said rainfall activity is expected to intensify from August 2, with heavy rainfall likely over Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj before shifting to southern districts, including Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput and Nabarangpur. The prevailing deep depression has weakened while moving westward, but favourable monsoon conditions will continue to trigger widespread rainfall.

The IMD also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along the south Odisha coast due to squally weather and rough sea conditions. Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar is likely to witness a generally cloudy sky with light rain over the next 24 hours.
