Court grants two-week extension to former minister Pratap Jena in double murder case

Bhubaneswar, Nov 1: Former minister and Mahanga MLA Pratap Jena has been granted a two-week extension by the Salipur JMFC court regarding his personal appearance in connection with a double murder case. The court has scheduled the next hearing for November 18. This case was previously transferred to the Bhubaneswar court in September, as ordered by the Salipur JMFC.
In one of its rulings, the court stated, "After reviewing the statements of the complainant, witnesses, and other available materials on record, we have established a prima facie case punishable under sections 302, 506, and 120 B of the Indian Penal Code against the accused, Pratap Kumar Jena."
It is important to note that on January 2, 2021, miscreants brutally killed BJP leader Kulamani Baral, the former block Chairperson of Mahanga, and his close associate Dibyasingha Baral. Subsequently, the prime accused in the case, Prafulla Biswal, was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances near the Govindpur area in Tangi, Cuttack district. The legal proceedings continue in this high-profile case.
