Bhubaneswar, June 22: The Southwest Monsoon made further progress into Odisha on Monday, bringing widespread rainfall and improving prospects for a complete monsoon coverage across the state within the next 48 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

In its midday weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar stated that the monsoon has advanced into more parts of Odisha along with regions of Maharashtra, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar. The current northern limit of the monsoon passes through Balangir and Sundargarh districts.

The IMD said weather conditions remain highly favourable for the monsoon to spread across the remaining parts of Odisha over the next two days. As a result, rainfall activity is expected to intensify in many areas.

During the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain and thundershowers were reported from several districts. Sonepur recorded heavy rainfall at isolated places, with both Sonepur and Dunguripalli receiving 7 cm of rain.

The weather office has forecast light to moderate rain across all districts till June 24 and issued a Yellow Warning for thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds of 40-50 kmph and isolated heavy rainfall. Heavy rain is likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Rayagada, Koraput and other districts.

The IMD has also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea on June 22 and 23 due to rough weather conditions, with wind speeds expected to reach up to 60 kmph and sea conditions remaining rough to very rough.
