Orange warning issued for Odisha as thunderstorms and strong winds likely till June 21
Bhubaneswar, June 16: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Warning for several districts of Odisha on June 17, predicting thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds over the next few days. Residents have been advised to remain alert as weather conditions are expected to become severe in many parts of the state.
According to the IMD, districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kandhamal and others are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph on June 17.
The weather agency has also issued Yellow Warnings for the remaining districts, where thunderstorms and hot and humid conditions are expected. Heat wave conditions may occur at isolated places in Jharsuguda and Sambalpur.
For June 18 and 19, thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely in most districts. Similar weather conditions are expected to continue on June 20 and 21, with thunderstorms forecast across almost the entire state.
The IMD has advised people to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open areas, and follow official weather updates to ensure safety.
