Youth stabbed to death while trying to mediate family feud in Kendrapara
Bhubaneswar, June 11: A young man was allegedly stabbed to death during a violent clash between two groups in Kendrapara district after he attempted to intervene and pacify the warring parties. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Pattamundai Model Police Station and has sent shockwaves through the local community.
The deceased has been identified as Kailash Mallick, a resident of Kajalabandh village.
According to sources, the violence stemmed from a dispute between the families of two brothers, Prabhakar Nayak and Pratap Nayak, at Ishanipalli village under Rajnagar police station limits. The immediate trigger was reportedly an argument over plucking drumsticks from a tree. What began as a verbal altercation on Wednesday soon escalated into a serious confrontation between the two families.
Locals alleged that the situation took a violent turn when Sushant Nayak, son of Pratap Nayak, allegedly arrived at the spot along with 10 to 15 youths from nearby villages and attacked the elder son of Prabhakar Nayak.
Amid the chaos, Kailash Mallick reportedly stepped in to mediate and prevent further violence. However, he was allegedly attacked during the clash and sustained grievous stab injuries.
He was initially taken to Rajnagar Community Health Centre and later shifted to Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital as his condition deteriorated. Doctors, however, declared him dead on arrival.
Sources said Prabhakar and Pratap Nayak have been involved in a long-standing land dispute, which is currently pending before a court.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify all those involved in the incident. Efforts are underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the circumstances that led to Kailash’s death.
