Youth arrested on rape charge following complaint by girlfriend in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, June 8: Dhauli Police on Monday arrested a youth on charges of allegedly raping his girlfriend at a hotel after taking her there without her consent. The arrest was made following a complaint lodged by the survivor, who approached the police seeking justice.
According to police sources, the alleged incident took place at a hotel in the Uttara area, which falls under the jurisdiction of Pipili Police Station. However, the survivor submitted a written complaint at Dhauli Police Station on Sunday, detailing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Acting promptly on the complaint, Dhauli Police registered a Zero FIR, a legal provision that allows police to record a complaint irrespective of territorial jurisdiction in cases requiring immediate action. Officials then initiated a preliminary investigation and took steps to apprehend the accused without delay.
Police said the accused and the survivor were known to each other and had reportedly been in a relationship for some time. However, in her complaint, the woman alleged that she had neither consented to accompany the accused to the hotel nor agreed to the alleged sexual act.
Following the registration of the case, police detained and arrested the accused for questioning. The case was subsequently transferred to the appropriate police station for further legal proceedings as per established procedure.
Investigators are recording statements and collecting evidence related to the incident. Police officials stated that the allegations are being thoroughly examined and that further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. The probe into the case is currently underway.
