Bhubaneswar, June 8: An aspirant appearing for the Odisha Civil Services (OCS) Preliminary Examination was allegedly caught using unfair means during the competitive test at an examination centre in the CDA area of Cuttack on Sunday, leading to the arrest of four persons.

According to reports, the candidate, identified as Avinash Rout, was found concealing a mobile phone inside his undergarment and using a wireless earphone while taking the examination. Invigilators reportedly became suspicious after noticing him repeatedly reading questions aloud during the test.

Upon closer inspection, examination authorities allegedly discovered the concealed electronic devices and immediately detained him. The matter was subsequently reported to the police for further investigation.

During questioning, investigators reportedly uncovered a larger cheating network. Police alleged that three associates of the candidate were stationed outside the examination centre and were assisting him by dictating answers over the phone. The accused accomplices were identified as Soumyaranjan Sahu, Alex and Rupesh.

Sources said the trio was operating from different locations in the CDA and Badambadi areas of Cuttack and was allegedly communicating with the candidate during the examination. Based on call records and information retrieved from the mobile phone, police traced and arrested the three individuals.

Avinash was handed over to the Markatnagar Police, which registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the incident. Notably, he is employed as a supervisor with an outsourcing agency at SCB Medical College and Hospital.

Police are investigating whether the accused were involved in similar examination-related malpractice cases in the past.
