Minor girl found dead in Ganjam village; murder suspected
Bhubaneswar, April 9: In a shocking incident, the body of a minor girl was recovered from a toilet behind her maternal uncle’s house at Lakhmanapalli village under Jagannath Prasad police limits in Ganjam district.
The deceased has been identified as Archana, a minor from Kanakuturu village under Buguda block. She had been staying at her maternal uncle Ganesh Maharana’s house when she suddenly went missing on Wednesday morning. Following frantic searches, her family lodged a complaint with the police.
Later that night, her body was discovered inside a toilet located about 20 metres behind the house, sending shockwaves through the locality.
On receiving information, police teams from Bhanjanagar, along with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, reached the spot and launched an investigation. Preliminary findings revealed strangulation marks on the girl’s neck, and her body was found wrapped in a saree, strongly indicating foul play.
Police suspect the involvement of the girl’s maternal aunt in the crime. Investigators are probing possible motives behind the alleged act.
The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination scheduled for today, while further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events.
